The entire month of March we are talking deployment and the different phases that we go through. Each week we will have a giveaway and welcome you to call in and share your deployment experience. Deployment Seasons-Phase 1

This month-March-is March madness Deployment style. We are going to talk about the different seasons of deployment and how we can lean on each other and look to God for the strength to get through.

Our first season of deployment is the shock and awe phase of deployment. We know deployments coming, we are dreading it and dragging our heels every chance we can to try and make it go away and leave our husband here. Then before we know it we are only days away from the big D and we are wishing we could just put our husband on a plane so we could start the countdown. Altough we never want to see them go, it’s just part of our life. Join us on March 5th at 11 am EST.

Each week we will have some great giveaways! Tune in live for your chance to win.

God Strong

God Strong - revision (3)
Sara Horn will join us on Friday, February 16th. We have a copy of God Strong to giveaway. You won’t want to miss this show! Here is some information about Sara’s newest book God Strong.

There’s Strong…And Then There’s God Strong
Founder of national military wives organization offers insight into military life with new release

Grand Rapids, Mich., November 23, 2009 – Military wives know how important it is to be strong. You have to be strong for your husband, for your children, for yourself. You have to be able to stop when you want to go, and start when you don’t feel quite ready. In the midst of indefinite war, the unknown can be crippling. The goodbye’s heart-wrenching. The hellos joyful but tinged with the uncertainty of how long it will last. Whether active, Guard or Reserve, military wives know they need strength. But sometimes they wonder where they can get it.

In God Strong: A Military Wife’s Spiritual Survival Guide (Zondervan, February 2010), Wives of Faith founder, Sara Horn, shares her personal story and insights as the wife of a Navy reservist who has spent years listening and encouraging other military wives living the military life. Readers whose lives revolve around the military will take comfort in Horn’s empathetic words while non-military readers will gain a telling, revealing look into the world known as military life.

Playing on the well-known recruitment term “Army Strong,” throughout, Horn presents a concept she calls “God Strong” and reveals nine pinpointed spiritual truths every military wife needs to know. Each chapter also includes experiences from other wives in all branches of service, as well as Bible verses and questions she calls “strength builders” and “strength trainers.”

“When we replace our strength with God’s strength,” she writes “we discover a major difference…We can run and not get tired. We can walk and not grow faint. We can become God Strong.”

Penned by someone with first-hand experience in the frustration and grueling loneliness that accompanies military spousal separation, God Strong has the power to encourage even the most devastated and fearful spouse. While Horn’s writing carries a deep level of compassion and sensitivity towards military wives, God Strong isn’t a pity party for the lonely military wife – it’s quite the opposite. Horn writes with gentleness, but she also writes with honesty and frankness.

“When we allow worry to control our thoughts, our emotions and our bodies are sure to be next,” she remarks. “Worry and stress can wreak havoc in our hearts and lives.”

Rather than living in anxiety, Horn encourages readers to rely on their faith in God, noting, “…if the worst were to happen [to me] – whether my husband were to die in combat or in a car accident – God is still in control. And he would walk me through the hurts and the pain. He would be strong for me in my weakness…give me enough of his grace and love to keep going. That part would never change.”

A refreshing, supporting and candid voice in a world that is often be filled with isolation and pessimism, Horn reminds military wives that when they depend on their faith, they don’t have to be an army of one. Because there’s strong. And then there’s God Strong.
